Councillor

Drew Broad

I was born in Worthing in Sussex in 1944; christened as Andrew, but my parents always called me Drew and it’s stuck ever since!

In 1966 I met my future wife, Valerie. We married in 1968 and moved to Norfolk in 1970, where we raised our two sons and our daughter in the village of Pedham, near Blofield.

Having risen through the ranks of the St. John Ambulance, I later joined the East of England Ambulance Service where I worked as a paramedic and senior manager until my retirement in 2012 at the age of 68.

Two of our children and their families are now based in Newton Flotman and nearby Forncett St. Peter, so we decided to move nearer and eventually found our lovely bungalow on the Flordon Road in 2013. We have grown to love the village and the people in it.

I served as a governor at Newton Flotman Primary School, until the school graduated to being an academy when the governorship came under the auspices of the Dioceses.

My wife passed away in February 2023 and the village have been a wonderful support network to me since.

I was elected on to Newton Flotman Parish Council in May 2023 and am now the Parish Council representative on the Newton Flotman Village Centre committee, as well as a trustee.

I very much enjoy playing an active role in village life; regularly attending church and visiting the school on a weekly basis to listen to the pupils read, something Val and I very much enjoyed before the pandemic.
